Relationship

Relationships can take many forms, everyone has his/her own unique set of values, beliefs, interests and experiences. Both individuals should feel confident that their partner is willing to devote time and care to the other committed to accommodating the differences and challenges that emerge. Also, another good way of determining if a relationship is healthy is to look at what occurs when there is a lack of agreement. When relationships are very new there may be few signs of conflict as both partners are trying to please each other. Good communication is a key part of a healthy relationship. We all need to feel we can share our true feelings, including if we are unhappy, without feeling we will be blamed or made to feel guilty about these feelings. They should feel like they are being listened to and that what they are saying is not being dismissed or belittled. Open, honest communication is a fundamental part of a healthy relationship.

Healthy Boundaries

The first step to building a relationship is making sure you both understand each other’s needs and expectations being on the same page is very important. Creating boundaries is a good way to keep your relationship healthy and secure. By setting boundaries together, you can both have a deeper understanding of the type of relationship that you and your partner want. Boundaries are not meant to make you feel trapped or like you’re “walking on eggshells.” Creating boundaries is not a sign of secrecy or distrust it’s an expression of what makes you feel comfortable and what you would like or not like to happen within the relationship.
