Stress, Anxiety and PANIC… What’s the difference

A study of mental health and stress levels in 2018 showed that three-quarters of people in the UK had been so stressed in the past year that they felt overwhelmed and unable to cope. Even more alarming, according to the study, was that one in three of these people had felt suicidal and one in six had gone on to self-harm.

Our bodies are designed this way, however, the problem we see today is that too many people are in “flight and flee” or “fight and flight” too often and for too long, this is chronic stress and the body is not designed to sustain the constant onslaught. Chronic stress can cause all sorts of detrimental health issues like high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, obesity and a weakened immune system to name just a few.

It's important to recognize when the signs and symptoms of stress and take steps to reduce its harmful situation or other stressful challenges that might be affecting your life. Stress affects the mind, body, behaviour in many ways, and everyone experiences stress differently causing damage to your health, mood, productivity, relationships, and quality of life.

Stress in itself is necessary, on occasion. It’s our built-in survival kit. Stress hormones like adrenaline, noradrenaline and cortisol are released when we need to “fight or flee” when facing a threat or danger or in competition, like a competitive sport. Adrenaline causes an increase in strength and performance, as well as heightened awareness and its effects can last for up to an hour.

The good news is that through Stress Hypnotherapy, NLP and coaching, we can help you manage stressful situations in a more positive, confident and calm manner.
